  • 18.2-10. Punishment for conviction of a felony; penalty.

The legal penalties for sentence of this felony are:

  • For Class 1 felonies: The punishment for those being sentenced for a Class 1 felony will be given sentenced to death. Exceptions to this sentence will be:
  1. If the offender is found to be intellectually disabled or not, and is found to be of age 18 and above during the time they committed that offense, the penalty for this offense will be to pay a fine of maximum $100,000 and be in captivity for a life time.
  1. If the offender is found to be intellectually disabled, and is below the age of 18 during the time they committed that offense, the penalty for this offense will be to pay a fine of maximum $100,000 and be captivity for life in prison.
  • For Class 2 felonies: The punishment for those being sentenced for a Class 2 felony will be either captivity for the entire life, or for no more than 20 years in prison. The offender can also be subjected to the payment of a fine of maximum $100,000.
  • For Class 3 felonies: The punishment for those being sentenced for a Class 3 felony will be either captivity for 5 to no more than 20 years in prison. The offender can also be subjected to payment of fine of maximum $100,000.
  • For Class 4 felonies: The punishment for those being sentenced for a Class 4 felony will be either captivity for minimum 2 years to serving a maximum of 10 years in prison. The offender can also be subjected to payment of fine of maximum $100,000.
  • For Class 5 felonies: The punishment for those being sentenced for a Class 5 felony will be either captivity for minimum 1 years to serving a maximum of 10 years in prison. If the court sees fit, the offender can be charged with the penalty for serving a maximum time of either 12 months as jail time, or paying a fine of maximum 2,500, or both.
  • For Class 6 felonies: The punishment for those being sentenced for a Class 6 felony will be either captivity for minimum 1 years to serving a maximum of 5 years in prison. If the court sees fit, the offender can be charged with the penalty for serving a maximum time of either 12 months as jail time, or paying a fine of maximum 2,500, or both.

What is the Penalty for Shoplifting in Alexandria – Virginia?

In the state of Virginia, any merchandise or good found to be below than $200, will be taken as petit larceny. The state of Virginia’s Commonwealth considers this as a Class 1 misdemeanor. Those found in violation of this offence will be held for the penalty of paying a fine no more than $2,500 and/or spending no more than a year as jail time.

If the offence is found to be of a grand larceny where the value of the merchandise is more than $200, the court will sentence the offender to pay a fine no more than $2,500 and/or spending minimum a year as jail time.
